At 14: 58 on July 11, 2019 local time, PT Krakatau Steel began operation of its new blast furnace and saw molten iron spurting from the furnace the next afternoon, which marked that the turnkey project that was undertaken by the Capital Engineering & Research Incorporation Limited (hereinafter referred to as “CERI”) and could produce 1.2 million tons/year of iron officially put into operation. This Project is expected to effectively reduce the production cost and improve the production process of PT Krakatau Steel, the largest state-owned steel maker in Indonesia. In addition, it also helps enhance the utilization of coal and iron resources, reduce the energy consumption and improve the steel quality.
The project consists of a 1,832-cubic-meter blast furnace, a 64-hole 6-meter coke oven, a 180-square-meter sintering machine and a comprehensive raw material plant plus molten iron pretreatment and other ancillary facilities. CERI employs the EPC model led by high-end consulting in this project. Designed based on related Chinese standards, the project adopts the seven most mature and reliable technologies, including the technology to prolong the service life of blast furnaces, rotary-type top-combustion hot blast stove and gasometer technologies. CERI has obtained the independent intellectual property rights of these seven technologies. In the meanwhile, the project also facilitates the export of home-made equipment, in particular of high-end complete equipment used in the metallurgical industry, such as large ladle cranes, axial blowers and diesel locomotives. Over 97% of equipment used in the project is made in China.
The project going into operation highlights the brand of CERI as a pacesetter in metallurgical industry of China, embodies the role model of CERI in carrying out mutual benefit and mutual learning under the Belt and Road initiative. This success also manifests CERI’s tremendous strength in EPC business and its steadfast determination to expand international market with strategic vision. This project offers treasured experiences for Chinese metallurgical enterprises in terms of expanding the Southeast Asian market and undertaking overseas EPC projects, and helps cultivate a team of international project management personnel. It is an important manifestation of MCC’s development strategy “being a national team in metallurgical construction, a main force in capital construction and a leading enterprise in emerging industries as well as sticking to the journey of hi-tech and high-quality development”.
Over the past four decades, CERI has offered the highest-quality services for numerous overseas steel enterprises.
